Join Midpen partner, Bay Area Older Adults, for a hike at Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. We start the day at one of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz mountain range, where we will learn about the significance of Mt. Umunhum to the Ohlone community and visit their Ceremonial Circle, and the historic importance of the Radar Tower that was once part of our missile defense system.  Next, we is time to explore more of the park by journeying down the three mile, mostly shady and cool Mt. Umunhum trail through varied habitats including coast live oak, foothill pine, California bay, interspersed with Pacific madrone and finally shrubs such as chamise, big berry manzanita, birch leafed mountain mahogany.  Of course, along the way there are striking panoramic views of the valley, ridgelines and neighboring peaks.

Transportation from Saratoga, CA to and from the preserve and picnic lunch are included.

Registration is required. To register, please visit bayareaolderadults.org/bao-hikes.
