Members of the public interested in running for one of three seats up for election on the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District’s (Midpen) Board of Directors have until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, to file the required paperwork.

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District board of directors adopted an $89.5 million budget for the fiscal year running from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District will offer approximately $37 million in “green bonds” for sale to the public on June 25, 2024.

The newly purchased property, which is now part of Midpen’s adjacent Miramontes Ridge Open Space Preserve, is made up of rolling grassy hills, coastal scrub, the Arroyo Leon Creek corridor and working agricultural lands.

At its regular meeting on December 13, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District board of directors approved the funding of five new grant proposals.

The California Wildlife Conservation Board awarded a $2.1 million grant to Midpen for the Alma Bridge Road Newt Passage Project, aimed at protecting the health of local newt populations and promoting habitat connectivity.
