Join Midpen Interpretive Specialist Ellen Tjosvold and California State Parks Interpreter Alex Trudelle to explore two unique tafoni sandstone formations in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Tafoni are rock structures that look like honeycomb or Swiss cheese and form over eons through cycles of erosion and weathering. These openings of varying sizes can only form with just the right rock type, climate and other conditions. Midpen and California State Parks work together to protect natural resources like tafoni, so open space visitors today and in future generations can experience and appreciate these special places.
