In addition to Midpen’s longstanding Volunteer, Interpretation and Education Programs and episodic hands-on projects in the preserves, other opportunities occasionally arise where you are able to join our efforts both behind the scenes and front and center. Whether you’re interested in making a difference in the community or contributing to projects that directly impact local woodlands and wildlife, the following opportunities provide a sense of connection to others and nature as well as a boost to your own self-satisfaction.
Wildlife Recording Unit Program: Onboarding & Training
Thursday, May 9, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. (virtual training and opportunity)
Midpen uses wildlife cameras and audio recording units to monitor and record wildlife activity and environmental conditions for scientific and educational outreach purposes. Using Wildlife Insights, volunteers in this all-virtual role help by identifying, tagging and sorting images uploaded from these cameras.
Community Connections Volunteer: Onboarding & Training
Saturday, May 11, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
We’re building a new team of volunteers and need people with energy, enthusiasm and a fresh perspective to make it happen. The primary function of this volunteer position is to provide communications and connection-building support at community outreach events with some opportunities to assist in the preserves. If you value efforts in caring for local landscapes and the personal benefits of spending time in nature, join our team as we go into the community to build networks and share information about Midpen’s efforts in land preservation, stewardship and opportunities for outdoor enjoyment.
Sudden Oak Death (SOD) Blitz Survey Project
Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. (training with surveys to be completed that same weekend)
Join a collaborative community science surveying effort that supports Midpen's forest health work, including wildland fire resiliency and climate change, as well as our partnerships with scientists and researchers.
