In December, the Midpen board of directors took its first public steps toward a proposed purchase of the 6,500-acre Cloverdale Ranch property, currently owned by the Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), by authorizing the general manager to apply to accept two significant sources of funding.
The future purchase of the Cloverdale Ranch property would enable Midpen to make a lasting commitment to actively manage regionally significant prairie habitats in the face of climate change, protect numerous threatened and endangered species, support viable agriculture and a local food source on the San Mateo County Coast, and provide new recreational opportunities for the public. The contribution of $8 million by a state budget request through Assemblymember Marc Berman filled a significant piece of the funding puzzle. Midpen will be formally thanking Assemblymember Berman at its January 26, 2022 board meeting. Complimenting this is a grant by San Mateo County for $500,000 of Measure K funds with the sponsorship of Supervisor Don Horsley.
