New research has shown that people can benefit from a minimum dose of nature. A recent study published in Scientific Reports found that people who visited a natural environment for 30 minutes or more a week have a 7% lower rate of depression, a rate that also correlates to the amount of time spent in open space. People who visited nature frequently were found to have a stronger sense of community connectedness, which is also linked to positive mental well-being. In addition, people who perceived greater “nature intensity” (more plants and animals), experienced a stronger sense of restoration. Tuning in to the sights and sounds of nature can make you happy!
