We're Going on a Bear Hunt!

We'rere going on a bear hunt... Going on a bear hunt. I've got my binoculars... Got my binoculars. I’m not scared... I’m not scared. What are we going to find? Have you ever wondered what plants, fungi, animals, and insects you are seeing beside the trail? Are you a fan of scavenger hunts or Pokemon Go? While you won’t actually see any bears on Midpen trails, join Docent Naturalists Melissa Hero, Roberta and Jaime Cavazos, Ben Jackson, and Anouchka Gaillard for a leisurely-paced walk on the Ipiwa and Alpine Pond Loop trails to learn how to photographically “capture” and identify the species you find using the iNaturalist and/or Seek apps on your cell phone. This event is family-friendly with less than 40-foot elevation gain.

(Note to parents/guardians: please download the free apps and create an account BEFORE attending this event, as wifi and cell signal is not available at the preserve. Instructions with links can be found at https://bit.ly/inatseek.)

Where to Meet

For this activity at Skyline Ridge Preserve, meet at the Russian Ridge Parking Area on the northwest corner of the Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) and Page Mill/Alpine Road intersection (across Skyline Blvd. on the right). Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 40 minutes travel time.

To ensure your experience on a docent naturalist outing is enjoyable please review these activity guidelines.
