Join Docent Naturalists Nancy Weintraub, Peter Maxwell, and Olga and Tony Bright on this moderately-paced hike in the shade of redwoods, madrones, bay laurels, and firs as you search for several manzanita species. You'll hike along the Tafoni Trail to observe the otherworldly geology of the tafoni sandstone formation. A small detour will take you to a scenic overlook with views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Cruz Mountains before returning to the parking area via the Tafoni Trail.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Caltrans Skeggs Point Parking Area on the east side of Skyline Boulevard, about 4 miles north of La Honda Road (Highway 84) and 1.5 miles south of Kings Mountain Road.  Please note that Caltrans prohibits a left turn into the parking lot when approaching from the north along Skyline Blvd.
