The Old Summit Road

October 9, 2024
9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Saratoga Gap Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
7.5

Traverse three preserves on this moderately-paced out-and-back hike along the old Summit Road while cultivating your senses with Docent Naturalists Bobbie Riedel, Marie Faust Evitt, and Nick Yatsko. You’ll listen to sounds within a canopy of great oaks, smell fragrant firs overhead, feel soft forest duff underfoot, touch moss-covered rocks trailside, and enjoy a view over the valley out to Mount Hamilton. Bring lunch for a stop on the trail. (Note: Highway 9 is scheduled to be closed between Saratoga and Redwood Gulch Road. Check online for the most up-to-date closures, consider an alternative route that is not Hwy 9, and leave extra travel time to arrive promptly for this activity.)

Where to Meet

Meet at Hickory Oaks Roadside Parking; 5.1 miles south of Page Mill Road or 1.3 miles north of Highway 9 on the west side of Skyline Boulevard.
