The Bay Area is the homeland of dozens of indigenous communities, many who stewarded and lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for thousands of years prior to European colonization. Join Docent Naturalists Kim Borick, Sarah Schoen, and Judy Sencenbaugh for this leisurely-paced hike with multiple stops along the Ipiwa and Sunny Jim trails. Historical and cultural background of local California native people will be discussed along with examples of indigenous material and practices in managing the resources of the landscape. Appropriate for children aged ten and older. Bring lunch to enjoy at Alpine Pond at the end of the hike.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Russian Ridge Parking Area on the northwest corner of the Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) and Page Mill/Alpine Road intersection (across Skyline Blvd. on the right). Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 40 minutes travel time.
