Who says Valentines Day is only about human or Hallmark-inspired romance? Join this pre-holiday, weekend hike to honor your affection for the natural world. Midpen’s Interpretive Specialist Katie Renz and Docent Naturalists Nancy Weintraub and Naureen Moon will lead an open-hearted wander through redwood forests and ocean vistas. You’ll botanize among heart-shaped plants, blush while learning about courtship rituals of local species, and consider how preservation, stewardship, and paying attention are acts of love. This hike encompasses steep sections but is leisurely-paced and with frequent stops. (Note: Bring a pen and blank paper for a sit-spot journaling exercise, a brief poem or passage about the natural world to share, and a lunch. This parking area fills quickly on the weekends; please carpool if possible.)
Meet at the North Ridge Parking Area on Skyline Boulevard. This entrance is next to the now closed Kings Mountain Country Store. The parking lot is 4.5 miles south of Highway 92, and 8.1 miles north of Highway 84.
