Biodiversity Bonanza: Restoring Oak Woodlands

September 5, 2024

Los Trancos Preserve
Approximate Total Miles

Want to help support biodiversity in your local oak woodlands and enjoy a leisurely-paced hike? Then join Midpen’s Volunteer Program Lead Catherine Caldwell, Interpretive Specialist Katie Renz, and Docent Naturalists Cheryl Higashi and Jennifer Anthony to help celebrate the upcoming California Biodiversity Day with a fun morning removing yellow star thistle. You'll get trained on plant identification, removal techniques, and why we want to remove this species from the local landscape. This hands-on morning will be followed by an interpretive hike among the oak woodlands focused on the abundant relationships that thrive in this community. This project is an excellent opportunity for first-time volunteers. Snacks are provided but it is recommended to bring a lunch. Advance registration is required here and opens on August 7.

Where to Meet

Meet at Los Trancos Parking Area on Page Mill Road (across from Monte Bello Preserve), 7 miles west of I-280 or 1.5 miles east of Skyline Boulevard. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 35 minutes travel time.

To ensure your experience on a docent naturalist outing is enjoyable please review these activity guidelines.

If your activity requires registration, please be sure to cancel your reservation (from your confirmation email) if you are no longer able to attend so others can participate.

After your participation on a guided activity please share your feedback — your input is meaningful to our volunteers and program staff – thank you!
