Monte Bello Preserve

There is no better way to celebrate the anniversary of people first walking on the moon than an evening hike to witness a simultaneous moon rise and sunset on Black Mountain. Join Docent Naturalists Paul Billig, Melissa Hero, and Ann McCarty for a moderately-paced hike beginning with a climb up the Bella Vista, Old Ranch, and Montebello Road trails. After stopping to enjoy the dinner you bring, you’ll descend as the moonlight illuminates the distant hills. Bring a flashlight, a pad or plastic to sit on, and an extra layer(s) for after the sun goes down. The hike includes 700 feet of elevation gain. Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after July 6 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close July 19 at 2:00 p.m.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Monte Bello Parking Area on Page Mill Road (across from Los Trancos Preserve), 7 miles west of I-280 or 1.5 miles east of Skyline Boulevard. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 35 minutes travel time.
