Just as there are many kinds of apples, there are numerous species of manzanitas –“little apples” in Spanish. Arctostaphylos (the genus name, meaning “bear grapes” in Latin) is an attractive and important plant species found in chaparral habitat. Docents Helena Cohen and TBD will guide your discovery of several species growing along the walk route including the endemic king’s mountain manzanita.
